    Located in the Barqarh district in the Indian state of Odisha, the Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary Hirakhand is covering a total area of 346.91 km2. Near the city of Sambalpur‘s Hirakud Dam, it is located. For the conservation of various local wildlife and their habitat, The Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary Hirakhand is an important location. To a wide variety of flora and fauna, it’s like shelter. There have been established more than 200 species of birds, 40 species of mammals, 12 species of amphibians, 40 species of reptiles, 85 species of butterflies, 42  species of fishes, 39 species of odonates, and 38 species of spiders living in the sanctuary.

     

    Attraction

    On the east and north, the sanctuary is bound by the huge Hirakud reservoir.  n the state, it is one of the selected few sanctuaries, supporting both terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity; which further attracts a momentous number of migratory waterfalls during winter; and more than 250 plant species, it is like shelter, many of which hold ethnobotanical and medicinal value.

    The magnificent Debrigarh Wildlife sanctuary is an excellent habitat and is flanked by the Hirakud Reservoir attracts thousands of birds to the landscape.

    For having a healthy population of wild animals and easy sighting of wildlife by visitors, Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary is famous.  For Leopard, Bison, Sambar, Elephants, Wild Boar, Chital, Chousingha, Wild Dog, Porcupine, and Nilgai, etc, the magnificent Debrigarh Wildlife sanctuary is an excellent habitat and is flanked by the Hirakud Reservoir attracts thousands of birds to the landscape. While trekking by foot or by vehicle on the forest road from Dhodrokusum to Chourasimal Eco-tourists can see a variety of wild animals, all along the reservoir, and large groups of Bison are commonly seen here.

    How to Reach

    By Air: To other major cities of the country, Sambalpur is not very well linked via regular flights. In Raipur, Raipur Airport the nearest airport is located at about a distance of 232 km.

    By Rail: From other major cities of the country, you can easily get regular trains to Sambalpur. Sambalpur railway station at Sambalpur city is the nearest railway station. 

    By road: Sambalpur is also not very well connected to the other parts of the state through the roadway. From the nearest cities such as puri, and Bhubaneswar, you can hire public or private transport to reach the city of Sambalpur.
