    History

The history of Lucknow’s Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Park is brief yet filled with significant events. The Dr Ambedkar Memorial Park was originally known as the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Udyan when it was founded in 1995. In 2002, however, after more repairs, the Udyan was renamed the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial. Even after the memorial underwent updates in 2007, it wasn’t until 2008 that it was completely operational as a public area. Ambedkar Park’s original name was replaced in 2012 by Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial. Approximately INR 6 billion was spent on the park’s construction. On April 14, 2008, the day of Dr. Ambedkar’s birthit was opened. Mayawati, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, was in office at the time.
