G B Plant high altitude zoo is one of the best zoos in Nainital. It’s situated in Nainital, Uttarakhand, and its established in 1984 and opened to publish in 1995. It’s situated on the Sher Ka Danda Hill at a height of 2100 meters 6,900 ft above sea level and this place is spread over 11 acres. This is the only high-altitude zoo in north India and over the years it has become a popular tourist attraction.

History

G B plant high altitude zoo was established in 1984 and it was opened to visitors on 1 June 1995.

The Nainital zoo was home to India’s only Siberian tiger from 2001 until its death in 2011 November and in 1997 the tiger, named Kunal was half of a pair of tigers brought from Darjeeling, and his older brother named Mahesh died in 2001

G B plant high altitude zoo has several endangered species of animals in the Himalayas and animals like the Bengal tiger, Tibetan wolves, Royal, Leopard car, sambar, and Himalayan bear. It has also a vast collection of high-altitude birds like lady Amherst pheasant, kalij pheasant, rose-ringed parakeet, golden pheasant, and red junglefowl.
This zoo has night shelters for the animals and curtains are put up in the bird enclosures in the winter months.
