    Gandhi Samadhi is a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi), who is known as the ‘Father of the Nation’ in India. Gandhi’s samadhi signifies the struggles that Mahatma Gandhi took over for the independence of India from British Rule. The term ‘Mahatma’ refers to the ‘great soul,’ and famous poet Rabindranath Tagore used it as a mark of deep valorization for Gandhi’s integrity and steely resolve in India’s struggle for independence.

    This place in Rampur is comparatively quiet and has a pleasant atmosphere.  It’s the only thing that is in Rampur after Delhi because Gandhi Samadhi is only in these two places. It is a very busy place because of the four surrounding roads, but in the morning, it is the best place to walk and exercise in a pleasant atmosphere. People use the area as a park where they can do jogging and running.  Overall, it is a nice place to visit if you are going to Rampur.

    Gandhi SamadhiMahatma Gandhi was a symbol of peace and non-violence. He also had an unbroken relationship with Rampur because Bapu’s ashes are buried in Gandhi Samadhi at Rampur. Bapu has his ashes in two places, one in the Delhi Rajghat and another in Rampur Gandhi Samadhi. Due to this, the importance of Gandhi Samadhi in the city increases even more. Park space popular for yoga & jogging, however, centered on a monument to the renowned activist & leader.  People come here to pay tribute to Gandhi Ji.

    Nowadays, people mostly visit here in the morning for jogging and yoga. The quite neat and clean environment with a small place with benches to sit or take a stroll makes it peaceful. The Gandhi Samadhi is one of the main tourist attractions in Rampur, and the evening view of Gandhi Samadhi is very attractive.

    History

    Apart from Rajghat in Delhi, the Samadhi of the father of the nation ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ is also situated in Rampur. On 11th February 1948, Bapu’s ashes were brought to Rampur. Some remaining of his ashes were immersed in the Kosi River, but some of the remaining bones were placed in a silver urn and buried. Today, people visit the magnificent Gandhi Samadhi here. Although it is a grave, the compound is used as a park now.

    Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan, an Indian politician, was a member of the 17th ‘Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh‘. He was a representative of the Suar constituency of Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district. Azam Khan gave the city a new look by conducting many developments. Gandhi Samadhi was also restructured, reshaped, and maintained during the Khan era.

    Gandhi SamadhiThe Gandhi Samadhi is situated exactly at the entry of the city’s heart. It’s 2 Km from NH24 & 2.5 Km from Rampur railway junction.  You can reach here within ten minutes of entering Rampur City from all the city entry points.

    The area is ‘o’ shaped and has four roads crossing each other, making communication well-communicated.  It has two gates, ‘Bab-e-Hayat’ and ‘Bab-e-neat,’ opposite each other. In older times, one of the gates was recognized as the ‘Nawab gate.’

    The monument in the middle of the park is round in shape. The off-white and golden color emits sacredness. The outside ‘o’ shaped area is protected with a heavy metal boundary. The samadhi is in the center of the circular boundary. The roads outside are wide. There is noise on the roads but no heavy traffic. The boundary is mostly colored in red and white, giving it a royal look. There is a fountain that is colored with various fairy lights at night. It’s really soothe one’s eyes.

    By Air: The nearest airports are ‘Mundha Pande Airstrip‘ and ‘Pantnagar Airport‘, which are also near Rampur and are approximately 62 km away. Both are domestic airports. However, the nearest international airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is 212 km away from Rampur.

    By Train: The nearest railway station to Rampur is Rampur Railway Station. You will get local transport to visit Gandhi Samadhi. The distance is merely 3 km.

    By Road: It can be reached from Rampur Moradabad Highway. The Gandhi Samadhi is the entrance of Rampur. Both Rampur and Moradabad are connected with other major cities in India.
