    History

    Although more than fifty temples are near the Gilahraj Ji Hanuman Mandir, the most well-known is the Gilharaj Ji Temple. It is said that the holy archer “Shri Mahendranath Yogi Ji Maharaj,” a saint, was the first to notice this sign of Shri Gilharaj Ji Maharaj. Legend has it that someone discovered Hanuman Ji in a dream. When Mahant sent his student to look for him, he found many squirrels in a mound of dirt. After removing the squirrels, he dug a hole and discovered the idol there. This idol depicted Hanuman Ji as a squirrel. One of the Mahants from the Nath sect constructed this temple.
    It is stated that Dauji Maharaj, the brother of Lord Shri Krishna, initially worshiped Hanuman as a squirrel. The temple of Achal Tal contains the only icon in the world showing the eye of Lord Hanuman. This temple is said to be old.
