    Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism is the first institution to unfurl its flag ‘On The Top of World ” not only once but thrice. It is located near the mountain of Himalaya on the lap of the majestic Kanchanjungha, the world’s 3rd highest peak. The place where it is situated is called Chemchey. It has an area of around 21 acres. This institute carries out mountaineering and adventure activities. This is done on the payment basis.
    It is one of the best mountaineering institutes in whole India. It is the only mountaineering institute that is open to the common public in Sikkim. You have internet in mountaining then this is a must visit place for you.

These are the Adventure Course, which is a 7-14-day course; the Basic Mountaineering Course, which is a 28-day course; and the Advanced Mountaineering Course, which is also a day course. You have gained an ‘A’ grade in the Basic Mountaineering Course to get admitted to the Advanced Mountaineering Course. IHCAE also has paragliding courses. These are the Rescue Operation Course, River Fainting Course, Mountain Biking Course, Rock Climbing, Trekking Course, Skiing Course, and Eco-tourism Course. If you are interested in all those, then this is a perfect place for you to visit

    History

    Sheemati Kumari Shelja who was the minister of Central Tourism of the Indian Government took the venture of establishing Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism and it was inaugurated on 7.12.2009. After its inauguration it conquered the highest peak, Kanchenjunga, three times within four years.

This institution has its large clean and well maintained premises where enough plants are seen. A model of Kanchanjangha is also made in its premises. Some unique structures are made for teaching mountaining and other courses. Course names are written on a nice board that is seen after entering into its premises.

    By Air: Bagdogra airport in Siliguri, West Bengal is the nearest airport to reach Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism. This airport is well connected with all the main cities of India. It is around 110 kilometers from Chemchey. This airport is also a domestic airport and connected to the nearest international airport being Kolkata in West Bengal. From Chemchey, hire a taxi or book a cab to reach the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism.

    Now, Sikkim has its own airport – Pakyong Airport. You can also go by this airport.

    By Train: New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri, West Bengal, is the nearest railway station to reach Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism. It is around 95 kilometers from Chemchey. This railway station is well connected with the major cities like Kolkata and Delhi. 

    From Chemchey, hire a taxi or book a cap to reach Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism.

    By Road: Private taxis, buses, and Jeeps are easily available on the Chemchey – Namchi – Siliguri highway. You can also contact and reserve taxis from the Tourists Department, Govt. of West Bengal and Sikkim.
