Actually, this place got the name Indira Point, after Indira Gandhi visited the place during her tenure as the Prime Minister of India. And when Rajiv Gandhi visited this place he named it Indira Point, however, that’s why the place got the name ‘Indira Point’.
Indira Point was formerly known as Pygmalion Point and Parsons Point. On February 19, 1984, Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited this place, a local MP suggested changing the name of this place to her name. The official renaming ceremony happened on 10 October 1985 after the death of Mrs. Gandhi.
