    The International Coir Museum was established to preserve the fascinating history and development of Coir Industry. It was built in 2014. The museum displays the actual processes of coir production. It shows how the coir industry has come, how it is retted and is extracted fiber,
    how it is developed through technological advancement. Modern technology has revolutionized the industry. The museum showcases how the origin of coir was found. Visitors can witness the growth of the coir industry by watching a short video film. Visitors can also shop for coir products in the Souvenir shop of the museum.

    History

    The Coir Board of India established the International Coir Museum, dedicating the rich history and evolution of the Coir Industry. Oommen Chandy, the chief minister of Kerala, inaugurated the museum on May 27, 2014. The authority aimed to spread the story of the Coir Industry to every person. Here, the authority provides a short video or film by which visitors can understand the whole journey and enter into a new world of the Coir Industry. It also showcases the latest collections and developments in the sector. It tells the story of the traditional process of coir production and also talks about the technological advancement that has brought about revolutionary changes in the sector.

    Inside/Outside Views

    Outside Views: The outside views of the museum are somewhat captivating. The building is designed with both modern and traditional architectural structures, and it is covered with a well-planned garden. The landscape is decorated with beautiful flowers and plants that add a serene vibe to the atmosphere. A stately entrance welcomes visitors to the world of history and cultural significance. The environment is inviting and catches the attention of the visitors.

    Inside Views:  When you enter the museum, you will witness some displays that tell you the story of the Coir Industry from its starting time to the present moment. People can experience traditional techniques of Coir making and mechanized coir production.  Visitors can also enjoy a video presentation about Coir Industry.     How to Reach

    By Road: Kalavoor Bus Stand is the nearest bus stand to the place. It is very close to the museum. From here, you can easily take an auto-rickshaw or walk to reach there.

    By Train:  Alappuzha Railway Station is the nearest station to the place. It is about 10 km away from the museum.  From here, you can take any local transport to go there.

    By Air: The closest airport to the place is Cochin International Airport. It is about 75 km away from the place.  From here, you can hire a taxi or cab to get there.

    Tips for Travellers

    • The winter season, from October to June,  is the best time to visit the place. 
    • Don’t miss to buy products from Souvenir shop. You can buy doormats, coir handicrafts, ornaments, and other items. 
    • Carry your necessary papers, passport, water bottles & medicines,  insect repellent & energy drink.
    • Please dress according to the weather.
    • Try to wear comfortable shoes.  
    • Try to get an update on the weather before going there. 
    • Try to eat local cuisine and know their tradition. 
    • Remember to check local guidelines. 
    • Don’t forget to take sun protection. 
    • Don’t forget to capture photos. Make sure that your phone battery is full, and please carry a power bank.
