    Iringole Kavu is a consecrated grove and forest Temple dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is situated in Kunnathunad Taluk of Ernakulam district in Kerala. The local people believed that Lord Parasurama, who is known as the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, had consecrated the temple. There are 108 Durga temples in Kerala, and one of them is a sacred place that features an awesome blending of divinity and wilderness. The temple is surrounded by lush greenery, and the whole area is rich in biodiversity. Different species of birds, plants, and trees can be found here. The temple becomes very attractive during the rainy season because of the gentle sounds of the raindrops and wildlife.

    • Temple of Goddess Durga: The main attraction of the temple is Goddess Durga. Here, rituals are performed in three forms. The rituals of Goddess Saraswati are performed in the morning, Vana Durga at noon, and Bhadrakali at night.
    • Sacred Grove: It is a sacred place that is believed to be protected by the Gods. It has the touch of divinity and wilderness together.
    • Medicinal Plants: The area of the temple is rich in biodiversity, including medicinal plants.
    • Turtles at the pond:

    Another attraction for visitors to the temple is the turtles at the pond.

    • Historical Mana: There is a traditional house known as Historical Mana, and gradually, it has become a tourist place.

    History

    The history of Iringole Kavu is found in mythology, especially in Mahabharata.  As the legend said, Goddess Durga  saved an infant Krishna here  in order to protect him from the cruelty of demoness Putana. It is believed that Goddess Durga protected Krishna by placing him in the dense forest which marks the place as a sign of divine protection. Over the centuries,  the grove turned into a sacred place which is visited by thousands of people every day. They worship Goddess Durga and celebrate the rituals related to Goddess Durga. They performed rituals in various forms. Moreover,  it is considered as the Goddess’s state.

    Iringole KavuOutside Views: The outside view of the temple is beautiful. As long as you can see, you can spot dense forests with rich biodiversity, including local flora, fauna, and wildlife. So, It’s an amazing spot for those people who love to spend time in the laps of nature. The thick greenery adds a mystical effect to it. 

    Inside Views: When visitors enter the temple, they will witness the idol of Goddess Durga, which is decorated in traditional Kerala style.  It displays perplexing wood carvings that add a serene ambiance to the temple. The temple is surrounded by a sacred grove filled with different species of trees and plants. Then, the visitors can spot a pond where turtles can be seen, and it enhances the natural beauty of the temple.

    By Air: The closest airport is Cochin International Airport to the place.  It is about 17 kilometers away from the place. From here, you can hire a taxi or bus to reach there.

    By Train: Aluva Railway Station is the nearest station to the place.  It is only 18 kilometres away from the place. From here, you have to take an auto-rickshaw or taxi to get there.

    By Bus: Perumbavoor Bus Stand is the nearest bus stop to the place.  It is only 2.5 kilometres away from the place. From here, you have to take an auto-rickshaw or taxi to get there.

    • The Winter season, from October to March,  is the best time to visit the place. 
    • Carry your necessary papers, passport, water bottles & medicines,  insect repellent & energy drink.
