    Jawahar Kunj is a park situated in Barrackpore and a Perfect place for having a picnic with family and friends beside the holy river Ganges. It is situated at Barrackpore which is near Annapurna temple. The area is very spacious and clean. It has several picnic spots for both large and small groups. The entry fee is quite affordable (35/- per person).
    It’s a picnic spot where you can enjoy the scenic beauty along with the Gange’s cool air. And there is a park where swings and slips are also available. The most important part is that there are lots of flowers and you can feel fresh air around those flowers. Even kids don’t want to go home either. It is a nice place for picnics as well as for small outings or dating. This place is a great one for relaxation too.

    History

    Jawahar Kunj was built in 1948 which is the year when the father of the nation died. However, the monument on the banks of the river Hooghly and the sprawling garden also known as Jawahar Kunj, can offer a day’s respite to city-dwellers. It was inaugurated by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Currently, the park is maintained by the state forest department.

    Jawahar Kunj is just a perfect place to have a family picnic or random outing. It has a wide area dedicated to picnic spots. The park is well maintained. You will find various flower gardens almost at every corner. It’s nicely decorated with flowers and trees. Jawahar Kunj will make you feel as if you are with Mother Nature herself. Moreover, right beside Jawahar Kunj, is the holy river ‘Ganga’ and the sunset scenery over there is mesmerizing. There is also an interior pond that has a lot of fish.

    There is a large playground for kids. There are 4 swings, two see-saws, a slide, and a sitting area. It is right in the middle of all the picnic spots, so it has easy access. The ladies’ restroom is isolated and it is near the pond. It’s quite clean and there are two stalls. The picnic area in Jawahar Kunj is divided by numbering them. The areas are wide and filled with trees. There are over 20 spots. And each has its beauty.

    By road: It is situated in Kolkata’s ‘Barrackpore’ Area. From the busy area of Kolkata, the Jawahar Kunj is almost 21 km away. Kolkata is well connected with other major cities like Siliguri, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Mumbai, etc. of the country. And from Kolkata city, you will get local transport to reach the site.

    By air: The closest airport, ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport’ (which is an international one), is almost 17 kilometers away from this area which is in Dum Dum, Kolkata. You can visit this place from outside of India. Apart from that, there are airports in Delhi, Mumbai, or Lucknow with direct flights to Kolkata. From the airport, you can easily get local transport to reach the site.

    By train: The closest railway station from Jawahar Kunj is almost 22 km away at the ‘Sealdah Station’. This station is well connected with major areas of the country. From the station, you will get local transport so that you can reach the site.
