    Jungle Safari in Rajaji National Park and Tiger Reserve, nested in Haridwar, is one of the most famous parks of this region. Here, ‘Chilla Safari Zone’ is a famous safari track in Rajaji National Park where tourists take a safari of about 36 kilometers. The Wildlife in this park is also great due to the variety of habitats. Tourists can spot dangerous Tigers, Leopards as well Elephants, and various kinds of deer (Spotted Deer, Sambar Deer, Barking Deer, Wild Boar). Chilla is also very good for Birds. Here are 3 species of Hornbill, 9 species of Woodpecker, 5 species of Barbet, 4 species of Kingfisher, and more than 150 different types of bird species can be easily seen if accompanied by an expert guide So along with birds, you can also see King Cobra Python and Monitor Lizard here. In short, for nature lovers, Jungle Safari is complete heaven.

    History

    In 1983, the intent notification of ‘Rajaji National Park’ was issued after merging the three wildlife sanctuaries of Uttarakhand (Rajaji, Motichur, and Chilla). It was named after the famous freedom fighter C. Rajagopalachari popularly known as ‘Rajaji’. Rajaji National Park is spread over an area of 820.42 sq km. However, Rajaji Tiger Reserve was converted into a tiger reserve park in 2017.

Besides, birdwatching enthusiasts can marvel at the avian diversity, with sightings of beautiful and colorful species for example the great hornbill, Asian paradise flycatcher, and crested kingfisher.
    More than 12 Tigers, 250 Panthers, 500 Elephants, and a good prey base including Spotted Deer, Goral Two kinds of Bears Himalayan Black and Sloth, Sambhar, Wild Boar, barking deer, and over 400 bird species make Rajaji National Park a perfect wildlife and bird watching destination.

    The Chilla Range of Rajaji Tiger Reserve remains open for tourists from 15th October to 15th June.

    That means Chilla Range remains closed for Day Visit from 16st June to 14th October.

     Morning: 6 Am to 10 Am

    Evening: 2 Pm to 6 Pm

    Entry & Others Fees

    Chilla FRH is situated in the main tourism zone. It may be assessed from Haridwar on the National Highway 58 just after the long bridge on the Ganga from Chandi Gate. It is a double store FRH built in 1883. It has 2 suites (double), a drawing-cum-dining room on the ground floor and one suite on the top floor. Electricity and water are available round the clock. Besides the old FRH 2 suites are available at the Chilla Annexe adjacent to the FRH. The visitor may get tea, food etc from the canteen operated by the Eco-development committee. Tariff

    How to Reach

    By road: Haridwar is well connected by bus with other major cities of the country. Tourists, however, can enjoy a wildlife safari to Chilla Range by taking a Jeep safari. All gates are well connected by road and visitors. They can book a Safari from the Chilla gate office of the Park authorities of Rajaji National Park.

    By air: The Nearest Airport from Chilla is Dehradun. The distance from Dehradun to Raiwala is 40 Kms only. From the airport, you have to take local transport.

    By railway: Nearest Railway Station from Chilla is Haridwar Railway Station. The distance from the Railway Station to Chilla is 5 Kms only.

    Tips for Travellers

     Please enter the Park after taking the necessary permits and follow all the rules.

    •  Please obtain services of ‘Nature Guides’ that the Park has trained (for your benefit). They are of great help to you in spotting wildlife and ensuring that you do not lose your way in the forest.
    • Drive slowly inside the park. That’s how you can see, observe and enjoy the most, without disturbing wildlife.
    • Keep to the specified roads and trails otherwise driving off track, you may trample growing trees and cause disturbance to resting animals and their youn
    •  Show respect to the wild animals and always maintain a safe distance from them. Remember, you are in their home and they get first priority.
    •  Try to listen to the music of the forest instead of your car stereo or transistor. The quieter you are, the more the chances of you seeing wildlife.
    • Remember to wear dull-colored clothes. Bright colors alarm most of the wild animals and they flee.
    • Don’t carry guns. You can shoot with a camera instead.
    •  Do not smoke or light campfires in the forest to avoid accidental fires that can destroy this wonderful jungle in no time.
    • Don’t get off your vehicle at any point in the Park except where it’s allowed. This is for your own safety and the safety of wildlife.
    • The safari park is not a zoo. So, don’t expect to see wildlife everywhere. Rajaji is breathtaking even in its scenery.
    • Do not be disappointed if you don’t see a tiger. It depends on luck. And there are many other interesting creatures that are to be seen and cherished.
    • Having alcohol and non-vegetarian food are also not allowed.
    • Please help to keep the park pollution-free. While inside the park, please put your entire non-biodegradable litter (tin cans, plastic, glass bottles, metal foils etc.) into the bag provided and dispose of it on your way out.
