    Kainchi Dham was established by a great saint named ‘Shri Neem Karoli Baba’ in the decade of 1960s at Kainchi village. The village is on Nainital-Almora Road, Uttarakhand. It’s indeed a holy temple along with an ashram surrounded by majestic hills, green trees, and a beautiful river flowing beside it.
    Neeb Karori Baba, who is more popularly known as Neem Karoli Baba, is revered by thousands of devotees who throng from various parts of the country. The weekly Tuesday visits are considered more sacred. Various rules are strictly enforced for example individuals staying at the ashram are required to participate in morning and evening Arati.
    ‘Love Everyone, Serve Everyone, Feed Everyone, Remember God’ is the motto followed in this ashram. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or not, married or not, sophisticated or not; it only matters how much you love God. This world is all about attachment and the ashram tries to ease the desperate feeling of attachment. In order to see God, with a stoic mind you have to kill your desires.

    The ashram is a popular one in Nainital as you can see that hundreds of people visit the temples here every day. Kainchi Dham organizes meditation programs and spiritual camps which are usually attended by devotees from all around the world. Visitors also attend a fair (which is organized every year on June 15) and over one lakh people are fed during the fair. However, the ashram has gained much recognition owing to the visit by Steve Jobs (Apple founder and CEO), and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO).

    Kainchi Dham was established by a great saint Shri Neem Karoli Baba in the decade of 1960s. The first temple was inaugurated in June 1964. It is at Kainchi village which is 38 km from Nainital on Nainital-Almora Road. It’s indeed a holy temple along with an ashram surrounded by beautiful hills, green trees, and a river flowing beside it making it a serene place to stay. Neem Karoli Baba is revered by thousands of devotees from various parts of the country. Especially on Tuesdays, it gains more crowd. People come here, visit here, stay here to find their spiritual satisfaction.

    Inside/Outside Views

    If you look at the temple you can see the devotees coming from different places and a chain of bhandaras, kirtans, and bhajans. The program of Pran-Pratishtha of idols (Hanumanji and others) was performed on 15th June in different years. That is why, 15th June is celebrated every year as ‘Pratishtha Divas’ when a large number of devotees come to Kainchi and get Prasad making a huge gathering. The number of devotees and the associated vehicular traffic is so large that even the district administration has to make some special arrangements to regulate them. Accordingly, some changes have been made in the whole complex so that the vast number of people do not face any difficulty in movement.
    Kainchi temple gets so special importance in each and every devotee’s life that the temple has a huge number of devotees. This is where Ram Dass and other Westerners spent a lot of good time with Maharajji. We suggest that all devotees should pay a visit to this temple at least once.     By road: It is situated in Nainital’s ‘Bhowali Range’ area. From the busy area of Nainital, Kainchi Dham is 20 km away. Nainital is well connected with other major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai etc. The country. And from Nainital city, you will get local transport to reach the site.

    By air: The closest airport, ‘PantNagar Airport’ (which is a domestic one), is almost 71 kilometers away from this area and is in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. You can visit this place from India. Apart from that, there are airports in Delhi or Lucknow with direct flights to Pant Nagar. From the airport, you can easily get local transport to reach the site.

    By train: The closest railway station from the Kainchi Dham is 37 km away at the ‘Kathgodam railway station’. This station is well connected with major areas of the country. From the station, you will get local transport so that you can reach the site.

    Tips for Travellers

    • Please wear suitable and comfortable clothes according to both culture and seasons.
    • Don’t forget to follow the code of conduct. 
    • If you are visiting Nainital for the first time, try to visit in a group for safety purposes.
    • Avoid theMonsoon, it’s better to avoid visiting during the monsoon season (from July to August) due to heavy rainfall, which can lead to landslides and difficult travel conditions.
    • Every year a fair is arranged on June 15.
    • The ashram is closed for a large portion of the year, because it becomes very cold. So, check before coming.
    • Rules are strictly enforced and individuals staying at the ashram are required to participate in both morning and evening Arati.
