    Kakkathuruthu Island is situated on Vembanad Lake. This place is well known for its abundant birdlife and picturesque scenery. This Island is also called the “ Island of Crows”. Some natives say that many years ago, crows were the only birds found here; for this reason, this Island got its name Kakkathuruthu. This Island is the home of several species of birds. During the rainy season, numerous migrant birds are coming, which is mesmerizing. It is a favorite spot for birdwatchers. It is a calm and quiet place.
    It is a part of the ninth ward of Ezhupunna Panchayat. This Island is 3 km long and 2 km wide. The Island is home to several traditional Kerala-style houses that provide a glimpse into the local way of life. There are 216 houses on the Island. There is an Ayurveda hospital and Anganwadi on the Island. People live a happy and satisfied life.
    The place is of serene beauty as it is almost untouched by development.

     By Air: The closest airport is Cochin International Airport (COK). It is about 40 km away from Kakkathuruthu island. From here, you can take a taxi or bus to reach Alappuzha.  From Alappuzha, you can take a ferry or local boat to Kakkathuruthu island. 

    By Train: The nearest railway station is Ezhuppunna. It is 3.5 km away. Another railway station is Alleppey ( Alappuzha) railway station. From Alleppey, you will hire a taxi or auto rickshaw to take you to the nearest jetty. From the jetty you can take a ferry or local boat to Kakkathuruthu island. 

    By Bus: Ezhupunna bus stand is near Kakkathuruthu island. It is about 2.2 km away.  From here you can directly reach the nearest jetty.
