    History

When the developers built this lighthouse in the early 1970s, they used CC blocks to construct the 37-metre-tall tower. M/s J Stone India Kolkata provided every piece of equipment. The authorities put the lighthouse into service on November 21, 1976. Geographically, it is situated at Lat. 10° 04.50′ N and long. 73° 58.54′ E. The 41-meter-tall tower is made of round RCC block masonry and painted in white and black bands. Since 2013, Minicoy RCS has been operating the automated lighthouse, while NAIS designated this station as a PSS in 2012.

    Inside/Outside Views

A lighthouse is a tower. It is topped with a very bright light that is called a beacon. The beacon is used by the sailors to guide their ships at night. The Kalpeni lighthouse also does the same thing. Inside, the spiral staircase usually ascends to the top, offering expansive views of the surrounding countryside and the ocean. The tower, recognizable from the outside, has a lantern room at the top that houses the light source that keeps ships moving securely.
