History

Karapuzha Dam is situated in the foothills of Western Ghats, and its construction was completed in 1976, primarily for irrigation and water supply purposes. It was built across the Karapuzha River, contributing significantly to the local agricultural landscape by providing irrigation to the surrounding farmlands. It is one of the largest and major water reservoirs in the region.
The Karapuzha Park promotes ecotourism by encouraging visitors to appreciate the local flora and fauna while participating in outdoor activities. The park is equipped with a variety of adventure activities like ziplining, boating, trekking, rock climbing, etc.

By Air : The nearest airport is Calicut International Airport, which is approximately 90 km away from the Dam. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach the Karapuzha Dam, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours.

By Train: The closest railway station is Kalpetta Railway Station which is around 20-25 km away from the Dam. From here you can hire a taxi or take local transport to reach the Dam. Another station is Kozhikode Railway Station, which is approximately 90 km away from the Dam. From the station, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach the Dam.

By Road: Karapuzha Dam is well connected by road. Kalpetta is the main bus hub in Wayanad. From Kalpetta, you will take a local taxi or auto rickshaw to reach the Dam, which is approximately 25-30 km away. It takes around 45 min to 1 hour by road.
