    The Kerala Folklore Museum is a unique architectural museum which has the touch of both modernity and history. It is located in the district of Ernakulam, Kerala. The museum exhibits the life and culture of the common people of Kerala which include over the past 1000 years. George J. Thaliath, an anthropologist and art collector and his wife Annie George established the museum. They aimed to preserve the ancient history and displayed it for education which is beneficial for the students and researchers. Travellers from the whole world come here and explore the museum to gain visual acuity. A must visit place in Ernakulam.

    History

    The anthropologist and art collector George J. Thaliath and his wife, Annie George, established the museum in 2009. They wanted to preserve the ancient history of Kerala so that people could easily gather knowledge about their past history and culture. The museum exhibits various cultural heritage of Kerala by displaying a huge collection of artifacts like stone, bronze, wood sculptures, jewelry, oil lamps and paintings, musical instruments, traditional art forms, ancient terracotta, utensils, woodworks, and many more things. It’s a place filled with interesting cultural history.

    Kerala Folklore MuseumOutside Views: The outside view of Kerala Folklore Museum is somewhere royal as it combines the style of Malabar, Tamil, and Kerala architectural structures. The building is a piece of art where you will explore different things at every Moment. The building is designed with perplexing woodwork from traditional Kerala designs. The museum features a courtyard that is designed in the traditional Kerala style. Here, visitors can rest or relax sometimes. The atmosphere is serene. It highlights the cultural environment of the museum.

    Inside Views: The interior of the museum is filled with interesting products. There are many halls which display artifacts-  Such as Jewelry, oil lamps, ancient terracotta, paintings, tribal and folk arts, musical instruments, masks, wood works and utensils, bronze, and many more ancient sculptures. It adds a unique environment here. There is a folklore theatre. Live performances can be enjoyed in the theatre.  They perform traditional Kerala art forms like Theyyam and Kathakali. Besides, the art gallery features an awesome combination of modernity and history.

    By Air: The closest airport is Cochin International Airport to the place.  It is about 35 kilometers away from the place. From here, you can hire a taxi or bus to get there.

    By Train: Ernakulam South Railway Station is the nearest station to the place.  It is only 5 kilometers away from the place. From here, you have to take an auto-rickshaw or taxi to get there.

    By Bus: Ernakulam Bus Stand is the nearest bus stop to the place, which is also called  Vyttila Mobility Hub.  It is only 6 kilometers away from the place. From here, you have to take an auto-rickshaw or taxi to get there.
