    Nested in Jhargram district of West Bengal, the Khandarani Lake is an awesome natural lake with a spectacular view of the sunset and Gadrishani Pahar as a backdrop. The lake seems significantly shrunk during the intense summer heat, yet during the rainy season, it is youthful. If you visit this lake in the afternoon, the stunning view of the sunset over the water must make you feel good. The ‘elephant viewing tower’ provides an excellent vantage point. It also offers expansive views of the surrounding area and the picturesque Gadrisini Hill. Serene and beautiful forest areal all around along with birds are all over the lake and around. It is an ideal place to find peace and tranquillity.

    Khandarani Lake is beautiful and a natural one surroundings with a picturesque view of the lake and surrounding greenery providing fresh oxygen.     Here, you will get ample parking area available (for both bikes and cars). All the views from every location of the lake, especially during sunset, are quite good. You can also get a better view from the Elephant viewing tower. The sunset view is something that you would not like to miss. During the full moon, the lake becomes ethereal when the reflection of the moon shines on the water’s surface.

    History

    The Khandarani Lake is a natural one and not much historical information has been found. It is in its natural form. So, how and when the lake is created cannot be anticipated. However, to reduce the irrigation problem of 13 villages, a dam was constructed decades ago. Till now, this place is less explored by tourists and it is a relaxation spot mainly for locals.

The Lake might seem dry during winter or the dry season. However, after the monsoon, the lakes are filled purely with rain water and natural moisture, making it magnificent.

    • However, you can use the ample Parking area providing an entry fee for bikes 10 and cars Rs 30/- only.

    How to Reach

    By road: It is situated in the Jhargram ‘Belpahari’ area. From the busy area of JharGram, the Khandarani Lake is about 40 km away. Kharagpur is well connected with other major cities like Siliguri, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Mumbai, etc. And from Jhargram city, you will get local transport to reach the site.

    By air: The closest airport, ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport’ (which is an international one), is almost 225 kilometers away from this area and is in Dum Dum, Kolkata. You can visit this place from outside of India. Apart from that, there are airports in Delhi, Mumbai, or Lucknow with direct flights to Kolkata. From the airport, you can easily get local transport to reach the site.

    By train: The closest railway station from Khandarani Lake is only 47 km away at the ‘JharGram Railway Station.’ This station is well connected with major areas of the country. From the station, you will get local transport so that you can reach the site.

    • The road to this place is not that spacious to accommodate bus and traveller small buses. So,
