    In the year 1968, the Konark museum started and was maintained by the archaeological server of India. Near the main temple in the north direction, this museum is situated. Showcasing 260 different fallen architectural pieces and sculptures, that were found during the clearance work of the Konark temple complex, the museum has four galleries. For historians and art lovers, the Konark museum is a treasure house and is open to the public.

     

    Attraction

    The first gallery of the museum holds 62 antiquities, out of which the image of Surya in sandstone, etc. are major attractions. The major attraction of the museum is its first gallery which contains 62 antiquities. Out of these antiquities, the image of Surya in sandstone, various incarnations of Lord Visnu, the Khandolite-built reconstructed wheel, etc are the centers of attraction. Along with the reconstructed wall of the temple, the drummer, and the head of the crocodile in gigantic nature, there are 108 exhibitions in the second gallery.45 objects like celestial nymphs, images of Surya Narayana, Gaja Vyala, the king and his troop, and various sensual figures are showcased in the third gallery of the museum. A recent addition to the museum is the fourth gallery which contains an exhibit of 45 artifacts along with a man tied by an elephant trunk, a roaring lion, part of a Surya image, sensual couples, and a king witnessing dance performances are some of the artworks displayed at this gallery.

    How to Reach

    By air: The Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneswar, is the closest airport to Konark with about a distance of 64 km. To most main cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, this airport is well-linked. From this airport, some of the major airlines operate, including  Air India, GoAir, IndiGo, and Vistara. After reaching the airport, you can travel to Konark to your desired destination by either bus or taxi.

    By Road: Run by the government, the Orissa Tourism Development Corporation has several buses regularly, a link Konark to other towns and cities within Odisha. They are not well maintained and can be quite uncomfortable, although are cheap.  Although a tad bit pricier, private Volvo buses are much better.  At Bhubaneswar or Puri, private buses can be boarded.  From Puri to Konark, Kishor Tours runs buses.

    By rail: The closest railway stations are located in Bhubaneswar and Puri, as Konark has no railway station of its own. From Konark, the Bhubaneswar railway station is at a distance of 61.7 km while the one in Puri is at a distance of 35.3 km. Both of these stations are well-linked to several major cities around India.
