    Kongdoori Phase 1 is the second longest and second highest cable car in the world and the main attraction is known as Gulmarg. Divided into two phases. Kongdoori Phase 1 – The first stage transfers from the Gulmarg resort at 2,600 m (8,530 ft) to Kongdoori Station in the bowl-shaped Kongdori valley. It ferries about 600 people per hour from Mount Afarwat, where most of the winter sports take place in Gulmarg.

    Attraction

    The cable car climbs about 1,330 meters at an altitude of about 4,000 meters and carries 600 people per hour.  After reaching the station, you can trek another 30 minutes to reach the top of the hill.  From here the LOC or Line of Control can be seen.

    Gulmarg Gondola offers a wonderful view of Nanda Devi, LOC, and Pir Panjal Range.  In addition to nurturing the beauty of the Himalayas, tourists can enjoy other activities such as horseback riding and snow skiing.

    Best Time to Visit:

    March-June is the best time to visit Gulmarg in the summer.  The hill station is often visited for adventurous opportunities that await visitors and for the scenic surroundings of the city.  If you are a nature lover who loves heat, April, May, and June are the best months to travel.

    History

    Kongdoori Valley at Kongdoori Phase 1, GulmargGulmarg is also known as the ‘Flower Grassland’ because of the flower fields that cover the city lands in summer.  However, if you are looking forward to skiing, December to mid-March is recommended. This place is so beautiful that you cannot take it from your eyes that’s why people visit this place again and again not for its history. Besides, there is no history behind this place.

    Gulmarg Gondola Phase 1 People return from Gulmarg Resort to Condori Station (Middle Station).  It starts at 2,990 meters and increases vertically to 400 meters.  Every hour it carries 1500 people to an altitude of 3100 meters from which several easy runs for skiing are accessible.  Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2 connects Mount Condori with the Afarwat Peak.

    How to reach Gulmarg by flight

    The nearest airport to Gulmarg is Srinagar Airport which is well-connected to all the major airports in the country.  From the airport, you need to rent a cab to reach Gulmarg.  There are arrival halls of prepaid taxi booths inside and outside the airport.

    How to reach Gulmarg by road

    Gulmarg is well connected to the major cities of Jammu and Kashmir from a few cities in Himachal Pradesh.  Direct buses are available from Delhi to Gulmarg.  Public-private deluxe and luxury buses ply this route.

    Gulmarg is about 60 km by road from Srinagar, which can be reached by a self-driving car.  However, the high altitude of the road is taking a lot of time.

    How to reach Gulmarg by train

    The nearest railway station to Gulmarg is the Jammu Railway Station, 290 km from Gulmarg.  You can catch a bus from Jammu to Srinagar or you can rent a cab directly to Gulmarg.

    Local transport in Gulmarg

    Being a small hill town, most of the tourists travel to Gulmarg on foot.  You can also book a taxi which can cost anywhere from 900 to 1500 rupees for a trip around the city.
