    Krishnapuram Palace is an 18th-century palace which is located in Kayamkulam, Kerala. The Travancore kingdom built the palace in traditional Kerala style. It is well-known for its architectural style and the famous  Gajendra Moksham mural, which is one of the largest and most prominent murals in Kerala. It has an archeological museum that displays bronzes, artifacts, paintings, and ancient sculptures, which highlight the cultural heritage of Kerala. It’s a place of history and myth. A must-visit place in Kerala.

    History

    To learn the history of Krishnapuram Palace, you have to go back to the 18th century. It has a long fascinating history. The ruler of the Travancore Kingdom named Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma established the palace after he won against the Odanad region in the Odanad Travancore War of 1746. The palace was built in a place where King Veera Ravi Varma of Odanad was built in earlier times. That means, King Veera’s palace has been replaced by Krishnapuram Palace. The palace is constructed in the traditional Kerala style, including narrow corridors,  triangle roofs, and dormer windows. It is located near the Krishnaswamy temple. The palace is covered with gardens, ponds, and lawns.

    Outside Views: The building is built in the traditional Kerala style with narrow corridors, gabled roofs, and dormer windows. It has a large garden with colorful flowers and plants. It also has a pond, which is believed to have connections to go underground. The terraced grounds around the Palace enhance its beauty and make it a picturesque place.     By Road: Kayamkulam Bus Stand is the nearest bus stand to the place. It is only 2 km away from the palace. From here, you can easily take a bus or hire a taxi to get there. 

    By Train: Kayamkulam Junction Railway Station is the nearest station to the palace. It is about 2 km away from the place. From here, you can take any local transport to go there.

    By Air: The closest airport to the palace is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. It is about 100 km away from the palace.  From here, you can hire a taxi or cab to get there.

    • September to March is the best time to visit the place. 
    • Carry your necessary papers, passport, water bottles & medicines & energy drink.
