    Lachit Borphukan was a great warrior and general of the Ahom Kingdom. Under his leadership and fighting skill on the battlefield of Saraighat, the Ahoms won the battle against the Mughals. He passed away after a year of victory. The remains of the great warrior hero lie here and to highlight his memories and remarkable leadership the memorial was built in the year 1672 by Swargadeo Udayaditya Singha.

    Inside the maidam, there is an amazing marble mausoleum that is marked as a tribute to the great warrior of Assam, a Lachit orphan. There is also a museum in the Lachit borphukan’s maidam. In the museum, there is the stuff that expresses the lifestyles of the Ahom Kingdom. It includes their clothing and wearing, brief about their weddings, eating habitats instruments used in the wars, etc. On 24th November it is celebrated as the ‘Lachit Day’ in the Assam state to commemorate the heroism of Lachit borphukan.
