    Maithon Waterfall is a picturesque place which is located near the Maithon Dam in Jharkhand, India. The place is filled with natural resources and natural beauty. The waterfall is made from the dam water. It was created by man, which adds a dynamic touch to the view of the dam.

    History

    Maithon Dam Waterfall is a perfect blend of nature and infrastructure, situated on the bank of the Barakar River. Maithon waterfall is closely connected with Maithon Dam. Damodar Valley Corporation has constructed the dam in the between 1953 and 1957. The name ‘Maithon’ is derived from the local language, which means ‘Mother’s abode. ‘It is also home to the ancient temple named ‘Kalyaneshwari.’ The dam was mainly constructed to prevent floods, enhance power generation, and for irrigation.

    How to Reach

    By Air: Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport (RDP) is the nearest airport to the waterfall. It is approximately 53.7 km away from the place. From here, you have to take a taxi or cab to get there.

    By Train: Kumardubi Railway Station is the closest station to the waterfall.  It is only 9-10 km away from the waterfall.  Another nearest station is Barakar Station, which is around 8km away from the waterfall. From here, you have to hire a taxi or any local transport to get there.

    By Bus: Asansol Bus Stand is the nearest bus stand to the waterfall. It is about 23 km away from the waterfall. From here, you can take a taxi or cab to get there.

    Tips for Travellers

    • The winter season, from October to June,  is the best time to visit the place. 
    • Carry your necessary papers, passport, water bottles & medicines,  insect repellent & energy drink.
    • Please dress according to the weather.
    • Try to wear comfortable shoes.  
    • Try to get an update on the weather before going there.
    • Try to eat local cuisine and know their tradition. 
    • Remember to check local guidelines.
