    The Mall Road In Nainital is synonymous with the city itself and it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nainital city. It’s the most visited place too and running parallel to the main lake, the mall road is 1.5 km long and connects the two ends of Nainital town, Tallital and Mallital.

    History

    Mall Road

    This mall is built by the British as a go-to place for the families residing in British colonies between 1841 to 1885  this road has now officially been named Govind Ballabh Pant Marg but is still referred to by its old and famous name mall road. This road is maintained by PWD and is governed under strict traffic rules in order to avoid any inconvenience to tourists especially during the peak season months of May, June, and October.

    Being a commercial center the mall is overcrowded During the day time and there is a number of hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, banks, and shops there to the visitor’s surprise. But during the months of May-June, this mall road is closed to vehicles so that tourists can enjoy a rush-free walk on the mall.

    The shops on this road specialize in unique candles of various shapes and sizes and there are many shops which are selling wooden artifacts, handmade handlooms, shawls, and handicraft items.
