    Maa Mansa Devi Temple is a well-known temple in the ancient city of Meerut in the west of Uttar Pradesh. Devotees from far away come to visit the temple and receive the blessings of the deity. Maa Mansa is the deity of snakes. According to the Padma Purana, Mansa Devi is the daughter of Lord Shiva. However, the existenokce of Devi Mansa is in the Mahabharata’s Adi Parva. The deity was familiar as Jarupkari then. She was the daughter of Kashyap Muni

    Maa Mansa Devi has 12 names. These are Jarupkari, Jagatgauri, Mansa, Siddha Yogini, Vaishnavi, Nagbani, Saibi, Nageswari, Jarupkari Piya, Asthik Mata, Vishahari and Mahagamnata. All these names of the deity are written on the temple’s wall. 

    An interesting thing about the temple is that the dress of the idol changes according to the day. On Sunday, Maa Mansa wears a red saree, golden on Monday, orange on Tuesday, Green on Wednesday, and yellow on Thursday. On Friday, she wears Maroon and Blue on Saturday.

    The main attraction of this place is its religious value. The Mansa idol of the temple is very alive, especially the eyes. There is a rule for visiting the idol. That is, you will always keep your eyes open while you do the Darshan of the Mansa Devi. You definitely make eye contact when you want something from the goddess. During Navratri, an attractive carnival is held there.

    Now, where Mansa Devi Temple is situated, there was once a 1000-year-old forest. The builders constructed the present temple of Mansa Devi in 1990. In the past, there was a little temple. Then Ramgiri, who was the priest of the temple, increased the temple to small premises. People came there for picnics, and local farmers sold their products. Puja is performed only in the Navratri. Day by day, the familiarity of the temple increased, and devotees came to visit from far away. Mela started to be held in a large premises. The government became concerned about the temple, and the look of the temple changed.

    There is a temple with the Mansa Devi idol inside the main temple. A diya called Akhanda Jyoti always burns on the side of the idol. A few other temples are on the premises without this temple, such as Durga Mata temple, Maa Kali temple, Maa Saraswati temple, Hanumanji temple, Bhairav temple, and Shanidev temple. Moreover, there is a newly built Navagraha temple. Inside Navagraha temple, the idols of Suryadev, Shukra, Mangal, Rahu, Ketu, Shani Dev, Chandra Dev, Budh, and Brihaspati predominate. Navagraha puja is held to satisfy them. 

    Samadhi of Ramgiri (old temple priest) is also inside the temple premises.

    By Road: Meerut is well connected to all the main cities in India. Vehicles are available from everywhere. So you can reach Meerut by any kind of vehicle.
