Situated in Pithoragarh city in Uttarakhand, the Mostamanu temple is dedicated to ‘Lord Mosta,’ the local deity of the region. Lord Mosta is considered the god of both water and rain. There is a belief in the world that ‘Mostadevata’ is a God of rain Indradev. The mother’s name is Mosta. She resides in Bhooloka, which means Earth, along with the deity of Mosta. Indra, however, has made him his successor in the PrithviLok or Earth to receive his enjoyment.
A temple is indeed peaceful, with a good view of the Himalayas as a backdrop. Visiting here might feel like time has skipped. Its location on a hilltop, amazing and beautiful construction, and serenity will definitely make you spend some quality time here.

    Attraction

Three famous fairs are organized yearly in the rural areas around the Pithoragarh district. Mostamnau Funfair is also very well-known to local tourists. At a distance of about six thousand feet, this district’s famous and scenic fair is held. This fair is commonly called ‘Mostamanu’s Fair’.
On the occasion of this fair, the ‘chariot’ of the deity Mosta comes out. This is also called ‘Zaman’. People come here from a far distance and see the great Mosta funfair. This fair also has its business form. In addition to the local fruits and flowers, kindergarten baskets, eye catchy mats, little agricultural plants, wooden household utensils, and various other items are purchased. Folk singers and dancers also joined the fair’s celebration, making it more colorful. On the beat of the hood, dances are conducted, and gradually, they are done with singing and dancing—the fair ends at dusk. Currently, governmental departments also use the fair to promote their respective programs.

    History

According to Local folk stories, the Mostamanu temple was built by a saint, Mostamanav. He came from Nepal, settled here, and built this temple. The temple’s structure is believed to be a replica of the Pashupathi Nath temple in Nepal. However, from an architectural perspective, it has some similarities with Nepali temples.
Mosta is believed to have created a storm called ‘Bhuntani Bayal.’ Whenever the deity of the Mosta gets angry, he destroys the apocalypse. It is said that he is equipped with 22 types of thunderbolts. Along with the help of ‘Goddess Mata Kalika’ and brother ‘Asura,’ he performs many unbelievable and impossible tasks in multiple ways. Both for the Mosta and the Asuras, buffalo, and goats are sacrificed (for their servants). Mosta is considered ‘Nagadevata’ (serpent god). His figure is regarded as Mosta or a Ringal mat. That means people consider them snakes with poisons (venomous). Therefore, those who are eventually unable to worship Nagdevata on Nagpanchami come here on the day of the fair to perform their worship.
