    Before 1808, Nanda Devi was considered the highest mountain in the world, and after that, Dhaulagiri was higher. It was also the highest mountain in India until 1948. After that, Sikkim, an independent Kingdom until 1948, was considered a protectorate of India. After that, it became a state of India.
    Between the Rishiganga Valley on the west and the Goriganga Valley on the east, the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand is where it is located.
