Cuttack takes pride in being the birthplace of the famous political leader Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’. He was a prominent Indian freedom fighter and founder of ‘Azad Hind Fauj.’ The birthplace of Netaji is situated in Oriya Bazar popularly known as Janakinath Bhawan. However, the place has now been converted into a museum and has been named the ‘Netaji Birth Place Museum’. The museum showcases a few original letters written by Netaji along with some other important materials Netaji used.
Tucked away in a nondescript corner of Cuttack, the place where Netaji Subhas was born has now been converted into a memorial. The museum is well-maintained and surrounded by a lush garden full of flowers. It is divided into sections related to his birth, early upbringing, and later exploits, both as a Congress leader and as the leader of the ‘Indian National Army.’
