    History

    Ojhala Bridge

Ojhala Bridge is about 250 years old. A businessman of Mirzapur named Mahant Parshuram Giri built this bridge. He was a cotton trader. The trade of cotton was very good in Mirzapur at that time. It is said that he built this bridge with only one day’s income. His purpose for creating this bridge was to connect Vindhyachal with Mirzapur and increase business as most of the transport through the river. On that day, business people came from far away and rested in the fort of Ojhala Bridge even though they stayed there at night. This bridge was mainly used for business.

Ojhala River also has religious significance. It is a sacred river for Hindus. For years, it has been believed that making sacrifices on the river gets rid of sins and fulfills wishes.

    Inside/Outside Views

This bridge is made of stone. Different sizes of stones were set together to build it. Ancient architectural art is visible throughout the erection.

Four huge pillars were initially added to the bridge, and in the end—rooms for the rest of the travelers and merchants who came for business. A fort is also set with a bridge for buying and selling products. This is also used for rest, and passengers spend the night there. Rooms were also built under the fort. There are stairs to go under. Even rooms were made under the bridge. So many rooms prove that it was a euphoric place for business. It was the heart of trade.
