The center is located at Tippi in the West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh, about 65 km from Tezpur (Assam) towards Bomdila (the West Kameng District Headquarters). It lies on the west bank of the Kameng River, surrounded by high hills covered with semi-evergreen tropical jungle vegetation. It covers an area of 10 hectares of flat land with office buildings, orchids, a tissue culture laboratory, a museum, a herbarium, and a garden.
One of the center’s main attractions is the orchid greenhouse. This consists of a fiberglass roof, an exhibition gallery around it, and a central pond with a fountain. It was created by Shri B.K. Nehru on 26.12.1972. The house houses around 1,000 exotic orchids displayed in pots, hanging baskets, etc. The curious and attractive flowers of species and hybrids in the Paphiopedilum, Dendrobium, Cattleya, and Vanda groups are a feast for the eyes of visitors.
