    Panchakot Pahar is also known as Panchet Hill, which is situated in the Neturia Community Development block at the northeastern end of the Purulia district in West Bengal, India. The hill rises to a mount, and the height of the hill is about 490 meters or 1610 feet. It is also a part of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. At the foot of the hill, you will still find the wreckage part of the fort and the old palace of the Panchet Rajas. Here you will also find some ancient temples. In the 18th century,  this area faced a Bargi attack, and that’s why it has historical significance.  This attack causes the destruction of the palace, the fort, and also temples.  Absolutely, It’s an ideal place for trekking or natural walking and explore historical structure.

    History

    Panchakot Pahar is a historical place where the Bargi attack that caused the destruction of Garh Panchkot, which is a fort of the 16th century. Singh Deo Dynasty built the fort. The fort is located at the base of the Panchakot Pahar. Because of the conflict between the Nawab of Bengal and the Maratha rulers, the Bargis, actually the Maratha rulers, attacked the fort during the 18th century. For this reason, the Panchkot Pahar stands as a testament to the period. The place is also famous for it’s scenic beauty including lush greenery.

    Inside/Outside Views

    Outside View: The outside view of the hill is eye soothing as it is surrounded by dense forests. There are so many dispersed bush of Mango and Mahua trees. At the foothills, you will find the wreckage of the old palace and the fort which belongs to the Panchet Rajas. There are also some ancient temples. The neighbouring area are filled with agricultural landscapes and vast fields and forests. It gives you a picturesque settings. 

    Inside View: When you enter the Pahar, you will notice the destructive part of Garh Panchkot, the old fort, temples and palaces. These structures remind you the ancient Panchkot kingdom which was once flourished here. It has historical significance.

    By Air: Ranchi Airport (IXR) is the nearest airport to the place. It is approximately 150 km away from the place. From Ranchi, you have to hire a taxi or take a train to reach there very easily. 

    By Train: Purulia Junction railway station is the nearest station to the place. From here, you can take a taxi or bus to get there. 

    By Bus: Purulia bus stand is the nearest bus stand of the place, which is about 24 kilometers away. From here, you have to take a local bus  or you can hire a rickshaw or car to get there.
