    History

The Parassini Madappura Sree Muthappan Temple is one of the unique temples in Kannur district because of its cultural heritage and rituals. There is a saying that the deity traces back to a local ruler and his family in North Malabar. It is said that Sree Muthappan is a combination of two Hindu deities. These two deities are Lord Visnu and Lord Shiva. According to the saying, a divine child appeared in a Brahmin family, and the child was known for his unusual behavior. These unusual behaviors include hunting and indulging, and the child has a deep love for poor people. As he grew up he possessed some supernatural power and later left his family and went to a forest. Later, he became the deity of Muthappan and started to worship in the local community. That’s how the Temple was created and now it has become one of the holy places among the devotees.
