    Phyang Monastery, is a Buddhist monastery located in Fiang village, which is also called Phyang (or Phiyang) Gompa just 15 or 16 kilometers west of Leh in Ladakh, northern India. In the year of 1515, it was established.

    Frescoes dating from the royal period, and a 900-year-old museum which has an extensive collection of idols including a number of fine Kashmiri bronzes probably dating to the 14th century, thangkas, Chinese, Tibetan and Mongolian firearms and weapons, Phyang does not contain several numricoala di portio contains numerous sacred shrines inside the monastery. From 17th day to 19th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar, the Gang-Sngon Tsedup Festival is held annually. Phyang serves as a venue for sacred dances, on the 2nd and 3rd day of the 6th month of the Tibetan calendar.

    History

    Regarding its founding, there are a couple of divergent traditions. Offered during the time of Dharmaraja Jamyang Namgial to Choose Damma Kunga, “the site where the monastery now stands was once a part of the numerous monastic properties.  Known as Tashi Chozong, the hill of Phyang served as the venue of a monastery, established in the year 1515. The first establishment of the Digung teachings in Ladakh, a monastic community was introduced to the monastery and with this started.

    Belonging to the Drikung Kagyu, Dri-gung-pa or Drigungpa school, the monastery is one of the earliest monasteries in Ladakh, one of eight schools derived from the teachings of Phakmadrupa Dorje Gyelpo (1110-1170 CE). Three main and more than thirty branch monasteries, there are many drikung monasteries in Ladakh. It specialised in Drigung teachings, after the monastery was built.

    Achi Choki Dolma Aphyi Choskyi Sdrolma is the special protector of the monastery. The head lama is the current reincarnation of Skyabje Toldan Rinpoche.

    How to Reach

    By air: Very well connected with some major airports in India, including New Delhi, the closest airport is Leh Airport. To reach the destination from the airport, taxis can be hired and.

    By Rail: At a distance of 812 km from Leh, the closest major railway station from Leh is Jammu Tawi. To reach Leh over Srinagar Leh Highway in a 3-day journey with overnight halts at Srinagar and Kargil, taxis can be hired from the railway station.

    From Leh via Manali Leh Highway, Joginder Nagar railway station is just 635 KM but is not a major one.

    By road: The most feasible option is to travel the distance between gurudwara and Leh by road. Between November and April, the road remains closed, so during that time, you should avoid going there.

    Within the Ladakh region, the state-run JKSRTC buses ply.
