    Pratapgad Fort is a mountain fort built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and this fort is at a distance of 24 km from the hill station of Mahabaleshwar. This fort holds a sturdy view of coastal Konkan and also  Bhavani Temple and Afzal Khan’s tomb is other places of interest.

    Attraction

    Pratapgad is 21 km from Mahabaleshwar on Mahad Road and It’s a very important fort as the major fight with Afzal Khan took place here on 10’th November 1659. In 1656 Ch. Shivaji Maharaj built this fort and the height of this fort is 3543 feet above sea level Also temple of Tulja Bhavani has been built here by Ch. Shivaji Maharaj. You can look out over Hundreds of kilometers of other areas right from Konkan.

    History

    In 1656 The famous minister Morepant Pingale on the command of Shivaji Maharaj to control the rebellious satraps of the surrounding Javali Basin built Pratapgad Fort is also believed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja was blessed with a shining sword at the temple of Goddess Bhavani here and the historic battle between Chhatrapati Shivaji and Afzal Khan, the commander of the Bijapur Sultanate took place at Pratapgad.
