    Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is in Pune, Maharashtra and It contains the collection of Dinkar G. Kelkar (1896–1990), dedicated to the memory of his only son, Raja, and a three-story building houses various sculptures dating back to the 14th century. There are ornaments made of ivory, silver, and gold, musical instruments, war weapons, and vessels.

    Attraction

    One of the most attractive features of this Museum is the replica of the Mastani Mahal, originally built in the year 1734 This room, with its luxurious décor, and grand chandelier artistic paintings present a setting, similar to that of the palace.

    History

    The collection was started around 1920, and by 1960 it contained around 15,000 objects. In 1962 The museum was established, and in 1975 Dr. Kelkar donated his collection to the Government of Maharashtra.

    The museum now holds over 20,000 objects of which 2,500 are kept on display These consist of Indian decorative items from everyday life and other art objects, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. This museum’s collection depicts the skills of the Indian artists of the time, including the prominent works of Pandit Abhijeet Joshi.

    Inside this Museum premises, you will find Research and Storage facilities. Inside the complex, the Institute of Musicology and Fine Arts is also located, and you can visit the museum from 10 am to 5:30 pm, for a charge of a minimal fee.
