    Relang New Monastery is also called Ralong Palchen Choling. It is a Buddhist monastery of the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism in southern Sikkim and  northeastern India. It is one of the biggest monasteries in Sikkim. It is located 6 kilometers from Ravangla. 

    It is one of the most beautiful monasteries in terms of its architecture and wonderful wall paintings. Don’t miss this place to visit when you are in Ravangla of West Sikkim. 

    Attraction

    Relang New Monastery’s main attraction is Pang Lhabsol. It is an annual festival where Mount Kanchenjunga is worshiped. This festival usually begins in September and ends in early December. Relang Monastery presents an extensive collection of paintings and thangkas. 

    History

    Relang New Monastery was an old monastery that underwent reconstruction from 1975 to 1981. In 1995, this new monastery was known as Palchen Choeling Monastic Institute. It was rebuilt by the 12th Gyaltsab Rinpoche. The older Karma Rabten Ling monastery, which is also called Relang Gompa, is located close to the west of this new monastery.

    A road from Ravangla directly reaches the Relang New Monastery. Flags are set all around the monastery like any other place of Sikkim. By those flags you can trace the location of this monastery. There is a canteen opposite it. From there you can buy the things you need. The monastery has parking convenience also. Numerous prayer wheels are set in the monastery. You can make your wish by rotating those prayer wheels. Those colorful prayer wheels look so nice as well. A statue of a tiger is set in front of the main monastery building. It is believed that the tiger saved the monastery from all negative energy. It has a large prayer room with the things that are used for praying. It has a kitchen, teaching room, hostels for students and also a guest house. 

    You can stay in the guest house. It will be hospitable to stay there.

    How to Reach

    By Air: Bagdogra Airport of Siliguri, West Bengal is the nearest airport to reach Ravangla. This airport is connected with all the main cities of India by regular flights. It is around 129 kilometers from Ravangla. It will take 4-5 hours to reach Ravangla from the airport. By reaching the airport you can hire a private taxi to reach Ravangla. Sikkim has its own airport– Pakyong Airport. It is well connected with all the main cities of India. So you can also reach Ravangla by this airport. 

    Relang New Monastery is only 6 kilometers from Ravangla. After reaching Ravangla, South Sikkim you will need another 20 minutes to drive to reach Relang New Monastery. 

    By Train: New Jalpaiguri Railway Station of Siliguri, West Bengal is the nearest railway station to reach Ravangla. It is around 122 kilometers from Ravangla. Relang New Monastery is only 16 kilometers from Ravangla. After reaching Ravangla, South Sikkim, you will need another 20 minutes to drive to Relang New Monastery. 

    By Road: Ravangla is easily accessible by road from all the main cities of the country. It is around 15 kilometers from Geyzing. Geyzing is well connected with Darjeeling, Siliguri, and Gangtok. You can easily go by private taxi and shared taxi. Buses are also available from Siliguri, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Pelling Tashiding, Yuksom and others. Relang New Monastery is only 6 kilometers from Ravangla. After reaching Ravangla, South Sikkim you will need another 20 minutes to drive to reach Ralong village. Gangtok is around 68 kilometers from Ravangla. It is the most convenient way to reach Ravangla, which is to first come to Gangtok and then drive down to Ravangla.
