The galleries of the museum display a rich collection of artifacts and decorative art such as Tanjore paintings, ivory, sculptures, Swarovski crystals, and porcelain. The museum also forms a special room named ‘ Kerala Room’ where visitors witness 3800 unique pieces that tell the story of the cultural evolution of the area.

    History

    Betty Karunakaran established the Revi Karunakaran Memorial Museum to keep the memories of her husband, Revi Karunakaran, who was a significant philanthropist and entrepreneur in Kerala. Revi Karunakaran was famous for his outstanding struggle to develop the coir industry. In 2003, when he passed away, his wife, Betty Karunakaran, made a decision to open their private collection as a Museum for the public in 2006. The museum is decorated with several impressive collections of artifacts and art of that time.

    Inside/Outside Views

    Outside Views: The outside views of the museum are absolutely superb. The museum has a unique architectural beauty with a grand and elegant building. It has well-maintained gardens. The landscape is decorated with beautiful plants and colorful flowers. There is a Kerala room where people can see 3800 artifacts depending on the cultural evolution of Kerala. People can also see many sculptures that have been collected from different parts of the world. Here, Vintage Buick and Vegetable Dye Mural are displayed. All of these items are nothing but a touch of nostalgia. Moreover,  the museum is a great door to enter into the long, rich history of Kerala.

    By Road: Kalavoor Bus Stand is the nearest bus stand to the place. It is very close to the museum. From here, you can easily take an auto-rickshaw or walk to reach there.

    By Train: Alappuzha Railway Station is the nearest station to the place. It is about 3 km away from the museum.  From here, you can take any local transport to go there.

    By Air: The closest airport to the place is Cochin International Airport. It is about 75 km away from the place. From here, you can hire a taxi or cab to get there.

    Tips for Travellers

    • The winter season, from October to June,  is the best time to visit the place. 
    • Don’t miss to buy products from Souvenir shop. You can buy doormats, coir handicrafts, ornaments, and other items. 
    • Carry your necessary papers, passport, water bottles & medicines,  insect repellent & energy drink.
