    Samdruptse is located below the Tendong hill on the Namchi of Sikkim in India. The word “Samdruptse” means wish fulfilling hill according to the local Bhutia dialect. Samdruptse Hill is just 5 kilometers away from Namchi. It is situated at an altitude of 2134 meters or 7000 feet. A giant statue of Guru Padmasambhava ornaments this epic hill. He is the patron saint of Sikkim. Guru Padmasambhava, a follower of Gautam Buddha, is considered as the most revered Buddhist. He was born in the 8th century in India. After Buddha, he is the person who spreads Buddhism the most. The most widely practiced form of Buddha across the Himalayan region. His travel led him across the Himalaya via Sikkim to Tibet, in Sikkim where he is popularly known as Guru Rinpoche. It is one of the eminent tourist attractions in South Sikkim.

    Attraction

    The main attraction of Samdruptse is its 45 feet high Padmasambhava statue. It is a marvelous amalgamation of art and engineering. It is covered in shimmering gold, sparkles in sunlight.
    The silence and peace of surroundings creates a magical atmosphere and this hill offers its visitor a vista of magnificent mount kanchendzonga with the blue sky. Picturesque views of peaks and valleys satisfy anyone’s mind that is thirsty for visiting scenic places.

    History

    According to local belief, Samdruptse hill is a volcano. Only great devotion can make it calm. Otherwise it may have erupted. The foundation stone was laid down by the Dalai Lama himself in 1997. The construction work was completed in 2004.

    Samdruptse Hill is located at an altitude of 2134 meters or 7000 feet. Guru Padmasambhava’s massive statue shimmering with gold enlightens this hill. This statue is seen from a far distance when sunlight falls on it. It is the largest statue of Guru Padmasambhava in the world. Benches are set scatteredly for relaxation for tourists. A large prayer wheel and some other small structures are seen in its perimeter. This is a very clean and well maintained place. So you can relish the beauty of it  without any hazard.

    By Air: Bagdogra airport in Siliguri, West Bengal is the nearest airport to reach Samdruptse. This airport is well connected with all the main cities of India. It is around 102 kilometers from Namchi. This airport is also a domestic airport and connected to the nearest international airport being Kolkata in West Bengal. From Namchi, Samdruptse is about 5 kilometers. Hire a taxi or book a cap to reach there from Namchi. Now Sikkim has its own airport – Pakyong airport. You can also go by this airport.

    By Train: New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri, West Bengal is the nearest railway station to reach Samdruptse. It is around 96 kilometers from Namchi. This railway station is well connected with the major cities like Kolkata and Delhi. From Namchi, Samdruptse is about 5 kilometers. Hire a taxi or book a cap to reach there from Namchi. 

    By Road: Namchi is around 92 kilometers from Siliguri. The Sikkim Nationalized Transport (SNT) buses ply regularly from Siliguri to the state. You can also go by private taxi and shared taxi. From Namchi, Samdruptse is about 5 kilometers. Hire a taxi or book a cap to reach there from Namchi.
