Satkhanda, which is next to the Chota Imambara, resembles a medieval work of art that has been frozen in time and is reminiscent of the Tower of Babel. It is a remnant of princely aspirations. This red-brick building was originally intended to be a seven-story tower, but it was only

completed to the fourth story because King Mohammed Ali Shah passed away suddenly in 1840. The tower’s planned grandeur is hinted at by its name, Satkhanda, which means “Seven-Storeyed.” However, only four of its floors were completed when construction was abandoned. The tower is a magnificent example of heritage architecture, even in its unfinished state. This building was created under the patronage of King Mohammed Ali Shah and was inspired by one of the world’s wonders, the famous “Leaning Tower of Pisa.”

    Attraction

The majestic Satkhanda, which means “Seven Stories,” was constructed in the 19th century under the rule of Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah. The tower, despite its name, was never finished; just four of the seven floors that were planned were built. The clock atop the tower, which dates back to the early 20th century, is its most notable feature. In addition to serving a practical purpose, this clock accentuates the tower’s magnificence, making it a famous landmark in Lucknow. Satkhanda, which combines Mughal and European influences, is a monument to the Nawabi era’s mastery in architecture. Visitors are still drawn to it by its stunning appearance and important historical background.

    History

Satkhanda was built as a watchtower between 1837 and 1842 under the direction of King Mohammed Ali Shah. It provided sweeping views of Lucknow‘s royal estates and old city. According to legend, the tower was built to see the Eid Chand. Historians have refuted a widely held belief regarding the tower’s sudden stoppage in construction, which was linked to the king’s injuries sustained while descending the stairs. Locals and visitors alike recognize its architectural charm and anxiously anticipate its restoration despite its incomplete state. Even though security guards have been assigned and repair work is in progress, the location is still abandoned, home to stray animals, and has an uneven, cluttered trail all around it. The abandoned rear of the tower is used as a landfill, which is a depressing sight given its historical significance.Satkhanda, Lucknow - History, Attraction & More you need to know
