A disputed land that the Hindus claimed was originally the site of a temple, Babri Masjid was attacked and demolished in 1992, and later in 2019, the Supreme Court of India in its verdict ordered the disputed land be restored to the Hindus which they would build a temple, and Muslims be given the land close by in Dhannipur to build a mosque. A report by Archaeological Survey of India suggested the presence of a structure beneath the demolished Babri Masjid that is non-Islamic.
