    History

    There is a history behind Augharnath Shiv Mandir. This Temple carries a historical Significance. Augharnath Shiv Mandir is locally known as Kalipaltan Mandir, and on this site, in 1857, soldiers of the war planned their operations. This Temple’s significance comes from religious significance, but it also has a vital role in India’s freedom struggle. It has a Memorial built to honor martyrs of the 1857 war. The old Temple has replaced the old one because a Saint asked the Indian Soilers to destroy the British Empire. It is also believed that a Shiva lingam manifested itself in the temples. The Indian Citizens had taken an oath to secure this Temple from the British on 10 May 1857. It is also considered one of the oldest temples of lord Shiva in the city.

It has a vast hall That is added to the complex to perform different types of bhajans, songs, etc. The new one has replaced the old Temple. The Temple had a small section of shrines and a nearby wall until 1944. A cluster of trees surrounds this Temple, making it scenic. They demolished the old Temple in 1968 and constructed a new one in a modern archaeological style. In 1987, they made some additions to this Temple.
    This Temple is a symbol of our culture and heritage. It consists of two Temples, the Lord Shiva Mandir and another is the recently constructed Shri Krishna Mandir.
