    History

Shri Bade Hanuman ji Mandir, also known as Lete Huye Hanuman Temple, has a rich history. It takes you back 700 years when the idol sank into water and sand and remained invisible for centuries.
There is a myth that a prosperous trader desired a son who lived in Kannauj. So, he wanted to build a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman at Vidhyachal Hills to fulfill his wish. Then, he made a stone idol of Lord Hanuman Ji. When he moved this idol from Vindhyachal to his kingdom by boat on the Ganga River, the boat broke down at night in Prayagraj. As a result, the idol drowned in the Ganga River. Later on, he built a temple to worship the reclining Hanuman Ji. Then, at the time of Aurangzeb, he tried to withdraw the idol from the temple in 1400AD. He appointed 100 soldiers for some days, but they failed to remove the idol.
