    Shri Hanuman Garhi Mandir is a hindu temple of Hanuman. It is located in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is also most significant temple in the city like Ram Mandir and Nageshwar Nath. The temple is maintained by the Bairagi Mahants of Ramanandi Sampradaya and Nirvani Akhra. The temple was known as the 10th-century Hindu temple and is dedicated to the Lord Hanuman. The locals consider Lord Hanuman as their guardian. They believed Lord Hanuman once guarded Ayodhya, especially Ram Kot. 

    Attraction

    Shri Hanuman Garhi Mandir is a famous pilgrimage site of Ayodhya. It is situated on the hilltop. If you reach the top, you will enjoy the panoramic view of Ayodhya. There are 76 stairs. This pathway is considered an act of devotion and penance.  Here, you can see the golden idol of Bal Hanuman and his Mata Anjani. The temple walls are beautifully inscribed with the verses of Hanuman Chalisa. Every year, they celebrate Ram Navami with devotion and love. They also celebrate Chaudah Kosi Parikrama. During these festivals, the temple is filled with serene sounds, prayers, and religious activities.  From the temple, you can also explore nearby historical places such as Ram Janmabhoomi, Sayru River, Kanak Bhawan, and Nageshwarnath Temple.  

    History

    According to local myth, Hanuman lived at this site to guard Ramkot which is known as the birthplace of Ayodhya. The local legend believed that Lord Hanuman himself was built the temple. By receiving the revenues and grants, Safdarjung and Shuja-ud-daulah was started the temple’s construction.  In 1799CE, The construction was completed successfully during the reign of Asaf-ud-daulah. Diwan Tikait Rai looked after the construction work.Shri Hanuman Garhi Mandir, Ayodhya - 10th-century Hindu temple

    Then, Nawab of Awadh used land revenue to build the temple in 1855. One of the historian named Sarvepalli Gopal once said that the 1855 dispute was not related to the Ayodhya Temple dispute rather it is more related to the dispute of Hanuman Garhi Temple.

    Inside/Outside Views

    Hanuman Garhi Temple is shaped like a four-sided fort, which is adorned with a circular fortress at each corner. The housing shrines are dedicated to the primary deity Hanuman. You will see the garbha griha in the main temple by passing 76 stairs. The garbha griha is decorated with silver carvings. Here you can find three beautifully designed doors from the central which can lead you to the inner chamber. Here, you will find a serene statue of Lord Hanuman. A 6-inch deity of Hanuman, who is depicted in his youthful (Bal) form, is held on the lap of his mother, Anjani. The temple walls are adorned with the verses of the Hanuman Chalisa. Within the garbha griha, there is a silver tulsi garland. The garland is inscribed with the name of Rama and adorned by Lord Hanuman.     How to Reach

    By Air: Faizabad Airport is the nearest airport of the mandir. It is about 8 km away from the mandir. You can take local buses, cabs or taxis to reach your desired place very easily.

    By Train: Ayodhya Dham Railway Station is the nearest station to the mandir. From the station, you can go to the mandir by walking. It is only 900 meters away from the mandir. Besides, you can hire a rickshaw or taxi to get your expected place very easily.

    By Bus: Ayodhya is well connected with the other cities of India. You can take a bus from the nearby cities to reach the mandir.

    Tips for Travellers

    • First,  you should remember that you are going to visit a religious place.
    • Please cover your head and shoulders while visiting the mandir. Try to wear modest but respective dresses.
    • Put off your shoes before entering the temple. It will be a sign of reverence. 
    • November to February means winter is the best time to visit the temple. It will give you pleasant weather throughout the visit. Because, during summer, the temperature of Jhansi increases and becomes too hot.
