The name Soochipara comes from the Malayalam words “Soothi,” meaning “needle,” and “para,” meaning “rock.” This refers to the shape of the rock formation in the area. The waterfall is a three-tiered waterfall, with water cascading down from a height of around 100-200 feet, depending on season. It is surrounded by dense forests, making it a popular trekking and adventure destination. The region is rich in biodiversity, home to various species of flora and fauna, and sits within the Western Ghats,  a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ecological significance.

    How to Reach

    By Air: The nearest airport to Soochipara Waterfalls is Calicut International Airport, which is approximately 85 km away from the waterfall. From the station, you can hire a taxi or take a private car to reach the Soochipara waterfalls. The drive usually takes around 2 or 3 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. 

    By Train: The closest well-connected railway station is Kozhikode Railway Station, which is approximately 75 km away from Soochipara waterfalls. From here, you can take a taxi or bus to Kalpetta and then go to the waterfall. 

    By Road: Soochipara is well connected by road from various points of Kerala. From Kozhikode, you can take a bus to Kalpetta. From Kalpetta, Soochipara waterfalls are around 22 km away. Next, you can take a taxi to Meppady. From here, it’s about 10-25 min to reach the falls.
