Sree Peralassery Temple

Sree Peralassery Temple is a holy place for Hindu devotees. The temple is located in the Kannur district of Kerala and is a famous pilgrim center. The main deity of the temple is Subramanya. History

The mythological history behind the temple is in Treta Yuga, Lord Sree Rama, along with Lakshman and Hanuman, was going to find Mata Sita. On their way to Lanka in search of Mata, Sita reached this place and felt the presence of lord Subramanya. Then Lord Rama decided that he would build an idol of Subramanya in this place. He told Hanuman to find a suitable idol to install, but he failed to find one at the right time. Then Sree Rama consecrated his Peruvala, the great Bangle, which is the symbol of the kingdom. Then, this place was named Peruvalassery, which, over time, was transformed into Peralassery. That’s how the temple got its name, Peralassery.

Inside the temple, you can see the deity of Subramanya in the center. The deity is also worshipped as a serpent. The interior of the temple is dimly lit, creating a spiritual and meditative atmosphere. The walls of the temple depict Hindu mythology through its carvings. There is an area inside the temple where devotees offer special prayers and also offer eggs and milk to the serpent. Outside the temple, there is a pond named Chira. Here, devotees take a holy dip. The entrance gate is modest but culturally rich, and the surrounding area of the temple is green.
