    It has a long history. Valayanad is the main deity of this Temple and Also the family deity of the Zamorin kings. The king ruled Kozhikode in the medieval period. It is said that Zamotin and Valluva fought each other, and Zamorin was defeated in spite of having better military and Financial support. The zamorin Pondered this and was dedicated to taking the blessings of the goddess. The Zamorin undertaken tapas in disguise at thirumanthamkunna Temple, (the family temple of Valluvakonathiri) until, Devi manifest him. Azhchavattom request the devi came to his kingdom. While they were traveling, Devi told him that whenever he hesitated and turned back to check on her, she would return immediately. After some time, when the jingling of her dance bells could not be heard, the Zamorin looked back, and Immediately Devi told him that she wouldn’t come any further with him. And as a reward for the Zamorin’s devotion, she would throw her bangle, and the spot where it fell would have her presence. And then This bangle of devi rotated for a week and landed at the place where the temple exactly now stands. The place where the bangle rotated for a week came to be known as Azhchavattom. And the place where the bangle fell became Thiruvalayanad.
