Thangu Valley, also known as Thangu-Chopta Valley, is a town and municipality in the Indian state of Sikkim. The population is projected to be around 1000 people. Thangu is a lovely town located around two hours from Lachen. It is a pleasant village where visitors frequently recuperate before embarking on a journey to Gurudongmar Lake, Muguthang Lake, or Cho Lhamu Lake. The rows of trees can be seen in Thangu Valley, and when one climbs higher, the breathtaking Tibetan Plateau panorama opens out. This charming village is an ideal starting point for nature enthusiasts.

    Attraction

The great season to visit the spellbinding Thangu Valley is between May and June, when the entire valley is adorned with vivid alpine flowers, and between October and March, when the thick snow covers these exquisite flower beds. The village’s charm is enhanced by the beautiful hiking paths that go from Thangu to areas like Chopta Valley and Muguthang. Because Thangu is so close to the Indian-Chinese border, it also has a large military installation.

    History

Thangu is situated at a height of 13000 feet above sea level. Thangu, about 30 kilometers north of Lachen, is a small town. Because of its great altitude, the area is blanketed with snow for most of the year. The area is blanketed in a white layer of snow, particularly from October to March. With the start of the flowering season in May, however, this whiteness transforms into a kaleidoscope of colors. Thangu’s alpine vegetation is renowned for its natural beauty, which was gifted by God.

    Inside/Outside Views

It lies in the Alpine range of mountains, at a high height of 3962m, and offers a different way of living. Serene, laid-back, and far from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan life. The dwellings are modest and cosy, and the residents still cook and perform errands using old-fashioned techniques. A kitchen garden and shed are found in almost every home. Because it is next to an army installation, there is a lot of monitoring in this region, and photography is prohibited. People from the army may be seen moving around. In Thangu, the Teesta, Chopta, Thangu, and Lassur rivers all flow through meadows, and their sparkling water is a sight to behold. As the height increases, the number of trees diminishes.
