    Tipaimukh is a hill town in the Churachandpur district of the state of Manipur. It has bordering the state of Mizoram. The word Tipaimukh derives from two words one is ‘tipi’ which refers to the Tuivai River and the other is ‘Muck’ which means Mouth. It is the local word. However the place is also known as Ruongievaisuo. Now, Tipaimukh Dam is one of the major tourist attractions of the Churachandpur district. It is one of the six tribal development blocks of the Churachandpur district and it is the 55th assembly constituency of Manipur. It is an area of 304.8 sq miles.

    At present Tipaimukh is one of the major tourist attractions of Manipur. The purpose of this dam is flood control and hydroelectric power generation. This dam is planted to be 390 m long and 162.2 m high across the broken river which enters Bangladesh below the proposed dam location. The dam is designed to contain water from the break river and control floods. There has been controversy Between Bangladesh and India over this project. In addition, the question of the environmental effects of the huge project as well as the need to relocate indigenous Hmar people to make way for a vast reservoir.
