    Tsuglagkhang Monastery is the most important Buddhist Monastery situated in the McLeod Ganj suburb of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, located at a distance of 2 km from McLeod Ganj Bus Stand and 4 km from Dharamshala. It is also called the Dalai Lama’s Temple complex. It is the home of the Dalai Lama. This place is among the world-renowned religious centers. Throughout the year it is thronged by Buddhist pilgrims. 

    The Tsuglagkhang Monastery is a beautifully built structure. It is more likely to be a temple and a residential complex for His Holiness and his followers. It is one of the most famous places in the area. A bunch of people come to visit this place throughout the year.

    The monastery looks magnificent. The surroundings are stunning. It attracts tourists so much. But there are some more reasons why it is famous. 

    It has a vast library. This gives you access to many rare books on religion, Buddhism, and Tibetan culture. There is also a museum that showcases pictures, and photographs of Tibetan culture and the Dalai Lama. You can also pay homage to Buddha by visiting the center sanctum and rotating the prayer wheel. You can speak with the monks to learn more about meditation, their culture, and Dalai Lama’s sermon.

    The Tsuglagkhang complex is the biggest complex outside Tibet. It is also known as the home of His Holiness Dalai Lama. The preachings and sermons of the Dalai Lama are the most sought-after events at this complex. This temple is in close vicinity to the abode of the Dalai Lama. It is frequently visited by him to preach and conduct prayer meets.

    This monastery deals with training monks for rituals associated with holy shrines. Whereas the temple is a chief place of worship. The well-maintained complex houses the Photang (residence of Dalai Lama),  Tsuglagkhang Temple, Tibet Museum, and Namgyal Gompa. 

    In the complex, there is a beautifully decorated statue of Lord Buddha along with beautiful statues of Padmasambhava and Avalokiteshvara.

    Tibet Museum is the first building inside the Tsuglagkhang Monastery. The ground floor of the monastery comprises a Chinese incursion of Tibet along with several other pictures. In the museum, one can find the major cause of the inflow of Tibetans to India. Outside Tibet, it is the biggest Tibetan Temple. There is a big meditation hall in the temple that comprises wonderful thangkas, and statues along with Kalachakra temple which has beautiful murals. It so has a garden, cafeteria, book shop, and a library

    How to Reach

    By air: Dharamsala-Kangra Airport is the nearest airport to the Tsuglagkhang complex Dalai lama temple. It is a domestic airport that is approximately 14 Kilometres South-West of Dharamshala and well connected with the main cities of the country. 

    By train: The nearest to Tsuglagkhang complex Dalai lama temple railway station is the Pathankot railway station. It is also well connected with the other major cities of the country. From the station, you can hire any local transport to reach the temple. 

    By road: Dharamshala is well connected with state-run buses, rickshaws, and cabs. You can travel on a bus or hire a private cab or auto to reach the temple from Dharamshala.  The temple is situated within walking distance of the Mcleodganj bus stop.
