    VMRDA INS Kursura Submarine Museum is one of the best milestones of Visakhapatnam tourism territory. This is the first Soviet-built museum of its kind in the whole of South Asia and the second in the world. The entire submarine, including the arms package, was unloaded from the sea and placed on a concrete foundation at ‘Gajapathi Raju Marg’ in Visakhapatnam.

    About Rs. 6 crores was spent on technical co-operation with the Naval Ship Design and Research Center for setting up the submarine in the museum. The submarine is 91.3 m long and 8 m wide. INS Kursura was abolished after 31 years of service in the Indian Navy and was converted into a museum in 2001. The museum presents visitors with the evolutionary milestones of the submarine through various photographs and written scripts from the past.

    How to Reach

    By Air: Kailasagiri is just 26 km from Visakhapatnam. On the other hand, Visakhapatnam is very well-networked with the major cities of India and various international countries by air. Visakhapatnam has its own international airport and it’s around 8 km from the city center. From here a number of reputed domestic and foreign carriers conduct their services. Air India, SpiceJet, IndiGo, Air Costa, and Jet Aircraft provide regular flights for Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Tirupati, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. There are also two airline providers, Malindo and Silkair, from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Taxi, cabs or buses are available from the airport.

    By Train: Visakhapatnam has its own railway station and it’s called ‘Visakhapatnam Junction. It’s just about 12 km away from the city center. This railway junction is well-connected to many other major cities of India like New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, etc. Janmbhoomi Express, Samta Express, Konark Express, East Coast Express, and Prasanthi Express are some of the best trains for Visakhapatnam. If you want to reach VMRDA Kailasagiri by train, then you’ve to reach ‘Visakhapatnam Junction’ first. Buses and taxis are available from the railway station, so you can easily reach your preferred destinations.

    By Road: Visakhapatnam is very well-connected to many small towns and cities by road.
