This is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery situated in Kalimpong of West Bengal, India. Zang Dhok Palri Phodang is at the top of Durpin hill (the hill is one of the two hills in Kalimpong). It is also known as the Durpin Monastery and Lava Monastery. The divine monastery expresses history and religion.

    History

    Craftung at Zang Dhok Palri Phodang

    The largest monastery of Kalimpong Zang Dhok Palri Phodang was consecrated in 1976 by the visiting Dalai Lama. Many rare scriptures were brought into the monastery after the invasion of Tibet in 1959. The title Dalai Lama is given by the Tibetan people to Tenzin Gyatso. The person represented Buddhist values and traditions. The greatness carries the emblem of the unification of Tibet

    monastery is built by the glorious Buddhist architecture in a three-dimensional appearance. The walls of the monastery got magnificent ancient paintings. All around the house, there is a charming look.In the Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, there is a rare Kangyur text in 108 volumes which was brought from Tibet.They got three-dimensional mandalas, sculptures, walls, pillars, ceremony hall, and a large number of devotees who came to offer their prayer.

    The outside view from this place is amazing that can’t be expressed in words. The view from the monastery makes the travellers dive into natural beauty. The view of the river Teesta is marvelous from the top of the hill.The town of Kalimpong can be seen from the hills of Durpin as it got 1376m in height.

    The Kalimpong Bus stand is only 5km away from the Zang Dhok Palri Phodang. It can also be reached from the nearest railway station and airport. The visitors can take a taxi from the station or airport to go to the monastery.
